What is this blog about?
Cancer treatment is devoted to making available short overviews of new treatments, promising approaches and research in oncology available to the public. Each post is accompanied by a Lay Summary and is based on the general consensus in the field of cancer medicine and related areas. This will provide clear, concise overviews available to all those who need them. I base all recommendations on professional society guidelines and credible medical evidence, but in the final account it represents my understanding of the field and a personal synthesis of the available information.
I endeavor to continuously review and revise the posts based on new developments but please be aware that the field of Cancer Medicine is constantly changing and evolving.
Who am I?
An academic physician with wide range of experience in various practice settings, including academia, teaching hospital and private practice settings. I have a consulting practice in clinical standards and utilization review in Oncology and run this blog devoted to standards of care.
Brief Professional Biography.
Dr. Levin had been Associate Professor of Medicine while a full-time attending at the University Hospital in Newark until 2009. Prior to 2004 had been an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Weil-Cornell College of Medicine. He is currently in private practice in Bergen County, New Jersey. He is first author of over thirty academic articles, chapters and several books. Over the past two decades he held the positions of Interim Chief of Hematology and Oncology at the New Jersey Medical School, Director of the Cancer Center at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, NJ; Chief of Hematology and Oncology and Chief of Service at Lincoln Medical Center and concurrently Director of the Cancer Center of the Northern Manhattan + Network of the Health and Hospitals Corporation in New York City; and Co-Director of Oncology at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He developed and ran two clinical research programs as well as a community advocacy group, a consulting group, and a non-profit educational institution.
